Kenyan Court Orders Compensation for Arshad Sharif's Family in Murder Case Verdict

The High Court in Kenya’s Kajiado announced its verdict in Arshad Sharif murder case, awarding 10 million Kenyan shillings to the family of the Shaheed Pakistani journalist who was ‘mistakenly’ shot and killed by Kenyan police officers in October 2022.

Senior Journlaist and leading news Anchor of Private Media TV Channel Arshad Sharif, was shot dead by Kenyan police on October 23, 2022 at Tinga area in Kajiado County in what the police later described as a case of “mistaken identity”.

Today while announcing the verdict, the Justice Stella Mutuku stated that the use of lethal force against Arshad Sharif by shooting him in the head was unlawful and unconstitutional. He ruled that the shooting of Sharif in Kajiado by police was “arbitrary and unconstitutional”.

Kenyan High Court Justice Stella Mutuku stated the shooting violated the journalist’s “right to life, right to equal benefit and protection of the law and right dignity, among others,” Kenya News Media reported.

The judge ordered the government of Kenya to compensate the family of Journalist by paying 10 million shillings.

Remembr that Journalist on 23 October 2023 Arshad Sharif was traveling towards his home in his car when he was shot dead by the kenya police in Kenya’s Nairobi city. He leaves behind five children.
