No Decision taken Yet on PTI Ban, Govt to Consult Alliance First - Ishaq Dar

Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar said on Saturday said that no decision has been made regarding the ban on the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, stating that any decision will only be taken after consultation with ruling coalition.

While Speaking to media at Lahore’s Data Darbar, Deputy Prime Minsiter and Former Finance Minister Ishaq Dar said that the current economic challenges were not introduced by the incumbent government but were a consequence of previous administrations.

“The Pakistan economy downgrading began with the ousting of Nawaz Sharif, not during our tenure,” Dar asserted.

Further detailing the economic impact, Dar pointed out that during the PTI’s tenure, Pakistan’s economic ranking plummeted from 24th to 47th.

Ishaq Dar asserted that the Election Commission of Pakistan had irrefutable evidence that PTI was a “foreign-funded party,” a reality that, in his view, cannot be denied.

He further explained, “Any decision [to ban PTI] will be carefully considered by the leadership and will involve consultation with our allies in accordance with the law and the Constitution of Pakistan. No action will be taken that violates legal or constitutional principles.”

Reiterating his stance, Dar confirmed that “no final decision regarding Ban has been made yet.”

Remember that federal government on Monday announced that it has decided to ban the PTI and seek Article 6 proceedings against Party founder Imran Khan, Former-president Dr Arif Alvi, and Ex-Deputy Speaker National Assembly (NA) Qasim Suri.

The announcement regarding ban on PTI was made by federal information minister Ata Tarar during Press conference.

While Addressing, Ata Tarar said Article 17 of the constitution empowers the federal government to ban a political party.

He said there is credible evidence to impose a ban on the PTI and cited the party’s involvement in foreign funding, the May 9 incident, its role in the resettlement of terrorists in Pakistan, the cipher episode, and the resolution passed in the United States.

Information Minister Tarar stated that a reference will also be filed against former President Arif Alvi, former Prime Minister Imran Khan, and former Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri for violating the Constitution when the assemblies were dissolved following the no-confidence motion against the PTI government. He said the reference will be forwarded to the Supreme Court after approval by the federal cabinet.
